Seeing with
Intent.
5 sessions | 15 hours | Porto & Online
Andrés Gonzalez
Andrés Gonzalez is a Porto-based photographer, publisher, and educator whose work explores urban transformation, environmental change, and the way time reshapes places and identities. He has been working under the Deshabitua name since 2011, building one of Portugal's most distinctive independent photography practices — rooted in film, refined through decades of documentary and street work.
His ongoing project IGNITIONS — a long-term documentary series on Portugal's wildfires, in progress since 2023 — has recently been shortlisted as a finalist for the PhotoJournalism Prize in the Environment category. His project City on the Move was an Official Selection at the IPA Photography Awards in the Street category (Professional), nominated at the Refocus B&W Awards, and featured in the Top 100 Monochrome Masters of 2025 by Photographize. His work has been published multiple times in LFI — Leica Fotografie International — and exhibited in Portugal and the United States.
He is the founder and editor of DES_Photomag, an independent photography publication with 18 editions across its TopBest Quarterly and Special Projects series, and producer of the DES_Photomag podcast. A new book on City on the Move is forthcoming.
Seeing with Intent is his first structured workshop — a direct extension of a practice built over more than two decades.

The Challenge ___
Photography has never been more alive. Or more crowded.
The excitement is real. The tools are extraordinary. The access is democratic in ways previous generations could only imagine.
But, standing for your own work - building a path that is genuinely yours, has never been more difficult. The noise is constant. The algorithms reward conformity. And somewhere between the inspiration and the scroll, your voice can get lost.
This workshop is not about leaning more. It´s about finding what is already there.
What this is ___
Seeing with Intent. is a private hour session - online or in person in Porto - designed for photographers who feel the pull away from
mainstream but haven’t yet found their own direction.
It is a conversation, a confrontation, and a recalibration — between you, your work, and your vision.
Fifteen hours of focused, undivided attention on your photography and where it wants to go — spread across five sessions of 3 hours each. We will look honestly at your work — what it says, what it avoids saying, and what it could become. Each session builds on the last, following your own pace and learning curve.
You will leave not with answers, but with the right questions. A clearer sense of your own visual language. A direction that is yours alone.
I aim to inspire, not to influence.
Who is this for ___
You are busy learning — not following trends.
You feel uncomfortable with where photography is going but haven't found your own way out.
